Maple Leafs’ “Winning Streak” Comes To An End - New Losing Streak Born
The Leafs ended their three game winning streak tonight with a 3-2 loss to the New Jersey Devils. The loss marked the birth of the Leafs next losing streak which should be at least a three gamer including tonight’s loss and the upcoming home and home series against Alexander Ovechkin.
One notable story tonight was that Andrew Raycroft played in a game where there wasn’t much he could have done to prevent the loss. Normally Raycroft is one of the main contributors to the losses, stinking up the crease area in almost every game he plays. Tonight though two of the three goals that beat Raycroft came off of skate deflections, one from his own defenseman Ian White. We at LeafsAreTrash.com would like to whole-heartedly congratulate Andrew Raycroft on playing a game in which his demonstrated skill level was notably higher than the normal PeeWee performances he regularly puts in.
While blame could be thrown in any number of directions, what it really comes down to is that the Leafs were playing against one of the best teams in the conference and a win wasn’t something anyone really expected. However, one must wonder whether or not the game could have turned out differently had Vesa Toskala, with his current hot streak, been in goal.
Regardless, nature is now back in balance as the Leafs separate themselves from the two words they should never be anywhere near this season - “winning streak”. Hopefully the team won’t have any more identity crises, and we can look forward to many more losses to come.
Stumble it!
